Instagram Takeovers

Our Instagram takeovers are a great way to showcase the people behind the market.

They give traders the chance to share what goes on behind the scenes — from preparation and making, through to the buzz of market day itself.

Takeovers help customers connect with your business, understand your process, and see the work that goes into bringing your products to market.

What Is a Takeover?

A takeover is when you temporarily run the Truro Farmers Market Instagram stories, sharing your journey from preparation through to market day.

Takeovers usually run:

  • Tuesday → Wednesday (for Wednesday traders)
  • Friday → Saturday (for Saturday traders)

Who Can Take Part?

Instagram takeovers are free for all regular traders at the market.

We run a limited number of takeovers throughout the year, and available dates are released via the booking system.

What to Share

We encourage you to show the real, day-to-day side of your business.

This could include:

  • Introducing yourself and your business
  • A look at where you work — “where the magic happens”
  • Preparing for market (making, baking, harvesting, packing)
  • Skills or processes unique to your business
  • Daily tasks (feeding animals, stock prep, deliveries, etc.)

The more authentic, the better — it doesn’t need to be polished.

Example Takeover Flow

You don’t need to follow this exactly, but here’s a rough guide:

Day 1 (Preparation Day — Tuesday or Friday)

Morning
Introduce yourself, what you do, and what you’ll be preparing for the market

Mid-morning
Share a video or reel of your process (making, cooking, crafting, harvesting)

Lunchtime
Quick update on progress

Afternoon
Highlight a product you’re excited to bring to market

Late afternoon / evening
Packing up, loading the vehicle, getting ready for the next day

Day 2 (Market Day — Wednesday or Saturday)

Morning (arrival)
Arriving at the market, setting up your stall

Market opening
Ready to go — invite people down

During the market

  • Stall activity
  • Customer interactions (with permission)
  • Chatting with other traders
  • General market atmosphere

End of day
Wrap-up — thank customers and reflect on the day

Content Tips

  • Keep videos short, natural and engaging
  • Speak to camera where possible — people love seeing the face behind the business
  • Add captions to give context
  • Mix video and photo content
  • Don’t worry about being perfect — real content works best

Guidelines

To keep things consistent and appropriate for the market:

  • Keep content friendly and welcoming
  • No political content
  • No offensive language
  • Be respectful of other traders and customers
  • Always ask permission before filming others
  • Remember you are representing both your business and the market

Access & Timing

  • Access is usually given on the day before your market (Tuesday or Friday)
  • The takeover runs through to the end of your market day (Wednesday or Saturday)
  • Access will be removed once the takeover ends

Book a Takeover

You can book an available takeover slot using the trader booking system.

Dates are released month by month, and you can choose a slot that suits your business — for example, when you have seasonal products or something new to showcase.
